It is unknown why 23-year-old Joe Louis Esquivel walked to his car after his shift, picked up a firearm and opened fire on his colleagues in the break room. He has not yet made a statement.
After mowing down his colleagues, the gunman fled in his Mitsubishi. He didn’t get very far, barely 15 kilometers away he was stopped. There a firefight ensued between the police and Esquivel, in which an officer was hit, but also the gunman. Their condition is not critical.
Police found additional firearms at Esquivel’s home in West Virginia, a spokesman said.
