Man is no longer welcome with a stall at the local market after his son robbed an elderly woman: “Everyone is responsible for their children” | Abroad

These are images that give chills and put France in turmoil at the end of August. A woman lies unconscious on the floor in fashionable Cannes. The emergency services suspect that she has become unwell. But then the images from the security camera are viewed. It shows how three 14-year-old teenagers chase, beat and rob her. The victim, 89-year-old Angèle, suffered numerous fractures and a cerebral haemorrhage.

The mayor of Cannes has decided that the father of one of the attackers is no longer welcome with his stall at the local market La Bocca. The decision was first taken as a “precautionary measure” on September 9, a few days after the facts of which the 14-year-old was accused. But now the measure is final, it sounds.

The city council emphasizes that the trader only took a place on the market “half a day a week, on Saturday”. “It is only half a day a week and so Mr. Azhari must definitely have other activities during the rest of the week. In any case, he cannot claim that this decision prevents him from working,” the statement said.

Although the city does not invoke a specific article of the market regulations, the board states that “everyone is responsible for their own children and must therefore also be held accountable”.

The market vendor’s son and another minor were sentenced on November 30 by the juvenile judge in Grasse for theft with violence and locked up in a closed youth institution.

The family in question will be received at a seat allocation meeting in La Bocca market, but the city warns that it will “not give in to pressure or threats”.
