Man is blind after assault on the street: ‘Scarred for life’

A man who was seriously assaulted on Economenlaan in Tilburg at the end of July will never be able to see again. He tells this in the Bureau Brabant Investigation Program. “I have completely lost my sight,” says the victim. There is still no trace of the perpetrators.

“I am on the waiting list for a prosthesis and still need time to recover,” says the man. “Physically, but mentally much longer.” He tells his story anonymously, because he hopes that the perpetrators can still be traced. “I would prefer to run away from this. They have come to my safety. I am scarred for life.”

The assault happened on July 31. The man was on his way to an appointment when he was suddenly attacked. That happened when he walked from Tilburg University station to Economenlaan. He was attacked from behind. His glasses, phone and a Jumbo bag were taken from him.

“I was clubbed from behind.”

The man no longer remembers what exactly happened. “It happened so quickly for me. I was clubbed from behind. I was hit in the face, stomach and back.” After a few minutes, the victim manages to get up and ask for help in a nearby café.

Because it all happened so quickly, the man could not see the two perpetrators. The police therefore hope to find witnesses and images. It is also looking for a woman who was walking her dog around that time and may have witnessed something of the crime.
