A man was hit by a truck on the emergency lane of the A58 near Moergestel on Friday afternoon and was killed. According to the police, he was standing or walking by his car with trailer when the accident happened. He had parked the car along the highway. The driver of the truck may have overlooked him.
After the man was hit, the truck collided with the passenger car, hit the crash barrier and came to a stop on the verge. The driver of the truck and a woman who was in or near the passenger car escaped unhurt. It is unknown where the victim is from.
The A58 will be closed in the direction of Eindhoven from two o’clock Friday afternoon from the De Baars junction. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, quickly arrived at the scene of the accident.
After the accident, one lane was closed, pending the air ambulance, it was quickly decided to close the entire road. Traffic in the direction of Eindhoven must take a diversion into account for the time being.
Traffic in the direction of Tilburg will be diverted to prevent the viewer traffic jam that has already arisen from getting any longer. Traffic is advised to drive via the A2 and A65. Between Best and Moergestel there was a traffic jam of 12 kilometers around three o’clock, which led to almost half an hour extra travel time.
