A 50-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Berlin-Mitte for displaying banned flags and physically attacking police officers. He is also said to have insulted the officials in a “xenophobic” way.

According to police, a passer-by alerted officers after seeing a swastika flag and a Reich war flag on the dashboard of a parked car on Große Hamburger Strasse.

The police identified the owner of the vehicle and called him to the location.

After removing the flags, the 50-year-old hit a police officer in the upper body with his hand. He is also said to have racially insulted the emergency services.

The man was arrested. The police officers remained uninjured and confiscated the banned flags; the Police State Security took over the investigation.
