Sint-NiklaasThe police arrested a man on Friday who had punched a photographer in the head at a wedding ceremony at the town hall in Sint-Niklaas for no reason. The unsub had been wandering the halls for a while, and is said to have psychological problems. The victim suffered a head injury but was not taken to hospital.
The incidents took place around noon on Friday. During a wedding ceremony at City Hall, a man chased the photographer who was documenting the wedding and struck out a punch out of nowhere. The photographer was left with a bleeding head wound, but did not have to go to hospital.
After the violence, the perpetrator fled. “A city guard was able to chase the man, after which the police arrested him,” says mayor Lieven Dehandschieter (N-VA). “There appeared to have been no concrete reason for the blow. The photographer’s injuries were not that bad, but it was of course quite a shock for everyone involved in the wedding ceremony.”
The man is said to have been roaming the halls of City Hall for a while. Further research is needed to determine what his motives were. The man is believed to have psychological problems.
