A 76-year-old man from Hardenberg was killed in a traffic accident on the A28 near De Wijk on Friday around midnight. A 70-year-old woman from Coevorden and a 78-year-old man from Hoogeveen were seriously injured.
Two cars were involved in the accident, police said. One of the vehicles ended up in the ditch. Assistance was no longer of any help to the man from Hardenberg. He died on the spot from his injuries. The other occupants of the car were taken to hospital.
The driver of the other car involved, a 67-year-old man from Assen, was also taken to hospital at a later time for a check-up. The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. Trace investigations have been carried out on the A28.
