Man drives dirt bike from pier in Velsen-North

A man was injured this morning after falling off the pier in Velsen-Noord with his dirt bike. The accident happened around 7 a.m. when the man overshot from the beach with his motorcycle and ended up between the boulders at the bottom of the pier.

Two men were riding their motorbikes from the beach towards the pier when one of them overlooked a raised ledge and was launched from the pier. He eventually ended up between the rocks, a spokesperson for the Noord-Holland Police Department reported.

Several emergency services, including a trauma team and a helicopter, came to the accident at Reyndersweg to take care of the victim. Ambulance personnel examined the man at the bottom of the pier, after which he was hoisted up on a stretcher by the fire service.

After receiving first aid, he was rushed to hospital with injuries to his legs. The victim’s motorcycle has been recovered by firefighters.

The police spokesperson stated that the men were in violation. “It is forbidden to motocross on the beach and you are also not allowed to drive a motorized vehicle on the pier.”
