A man died on Friday afternoon in a serious accident on the A58 near Moergestel. The victim had parked his car with trailer on the hard shoulder and got out. Soon after, he was hit by a truck. Due to the handling of the accident, the road between the De Baars junction and Oirschot will remain closed all evening.
The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday. Several emergency services, including the fire brigade, an ambulance and a trauma helicopter were called. The truck also rammed into the side of the car that was stationary in the hard shoulder. There was a woman in the passenger seat. She was not injured and escaped unhurt.
The truck hit the guardrail and came to a stop on the shoulder. The truck driver was also uninjured and escaped unhurt.
Due to the serious accident, the road from the De Baars junction to Eindhoven is closed. Traffic between Tilburg and Eindhoven must expect considerable delays in both directions.
Road remains closed
Police are continuing to investigate the accident. As a result, the road will remain closed between junction De Baars and Oirschot for the time being. Once the investigation is complete, the vehicles will be salvaged. Rijkswaterstaat explains that the soil will then be cleaned up and the ditch will be emptied due to fuel leaks. The guardrail also needs to be repaired. This will take all evening and the road will remain closed until then.
The ANWB advises motorists in the direction of Eindhoven to drive via Den Bosch on the A65 and the A2. In the direction of Tilburg, a viewer traffic jam arose shortly after the fatal accident.
