Pep Guardiola wants to take a break after his era at Manchester City. However, he left open when that will be. “When my time is over here. In a year, in two, three, four, five, six years,” he said at “Sky Sports” and laughed. In an interview by the broadcaster “ESPN”, he had previously emphasized that he would take a break after his contract at City. His working paper is currently still valid until June 30, 2027.
It would not be the first long break from Guardiola: The Spaniard had taken a break from FC Barcelona after his also very successful time at FC Barcelona-including three national championships and two Champions League titles. A year later, he had taken over the head coach post at FC Bayern for three seasons. He has been working at Manchester City since July 2016.
He didn’t know how people should remember him as a coach, Guardiola said. He believes that the fans of Barcelona, Bavaria and Manchester City would have seen his teams play with fun. “When we die, our families cry for two or three days, and then it is over – you are forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad, important that the good ones are remembered longer.”
In this season, the coach was unusually bad. Manchester City had no chance in the title race against the rival FC Liverpool, which has already been determined as a master. Guardiola and his team also resigned prematurely in the Champions League. With the 1-0 win on Friday evening against the Wolverhampton Wanderers, City was strengthened at least the chances of moving into the premier class.
