Gündogan, 32, joins Barcelona on a free transfer as his contract with City expires at the end of June. City offered the German a new contract, but according to the BBC, Barcelona offered a more lucrative contract.
According to the BBC, City coach Pep Guardiola would have liked to keep Gündogan in his ranks, who was a vital piece in City’s treble-winning season. He made 51 appearances last season, scoring 11 goals, two of which came in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Gündogan moved to City in 2016 from the German Borussia Dortmund. In the end, he won a total of 14 trophies at City, including the Premier League championship five times and the Champions League once.
Arsenal signing Kai Havertz
Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League last season, are signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea, reports BBC.
According to the BBC, the clubs have reached an agreement on a transfer amount of 65 million pounds.
Havertz, 24, moved to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020. The London club paid 71 million pounds for the German at the time. He scored nine goals in a Chelsea shirt last season.
Arsenal led the Premier League for a long time last season, but eventually had to bow out and settle for second place. Team manager Mikel Arteta is currently looking for reinforcements.
