Premier League leaders Manchester City were held to a goalless draw at London club Crystal Palace on Monday night. Team manager Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to convert their superiority into goals.
The Sky Blues, who are only four points ahead of pursuers Liverpool after the 0-0 draw in eleventh place in the table, were unable to accommodate any of the 18 shots on goalkeeper Guaita’s goal. The field superiority and the high proportion of ball possession was not enough for Manchester City.
City dominated at Selhurst Park for long stretches and also had the better chances to score. Joao Cancelo (27′) and Kevin De Bruyne (58′) were unlucky to hit the post.
Also surprising: Guardiola did not make any substitutions, so national player Ilkay Gündogan stayed on the bench for over 90 minutes, as did attackers Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.
Liverpool with team manager Jürgen Klopp could come within a point of the defending champion with another success on Wednesday (9:15 p.m. / Sky) at Arsenal. Two months ago, the lead was eleven points.
On April 10th there will be a showdown with Liverpool.
