Man breaks in to pin a few tens: “Then you are out of your mind”

A striking burglary at a building on the Warmoesstraat in the center of Amsterdam where there are two ATMs: Friday on Saturday night a man kicked in the glass door of the building, and then withdrew a few tens. The owner of the business does not understand at all.

“I don’t understand why someone takes so much risk to withdraw a small amount, then you are out of your mind. What brutality,” said the owner. He could see on the camera images that the man only took one note from the ATM. “That is usually fifty or twenty euros. Fortunately, not much has been removed and that is also debited.”

The owner initially feared that the man had very different intentions. “The cleaner saw when he arrived at 7 a.m. that the window had been broken. My first reaction was that I thought it was a crash, but luckily it wasn’t.”

Door locked

The door of the building is locked at night to prevent people from peeing, sleeping or dealing drugs. “Yesterday someone crawled through the hole and slept there. That’s why we always close the door from 2 a.m. and open it again at 7 a.m..”

The damage to the case amounts to approximately 130 euros, the owner has decided not to file a report against the man for the ‘pin breakage’. “That just costs extra time and I won’t be reimbursed anyway. I just take the damage on my own account. There will be a steel plate behind the window just to be sure, it will be replaced on Monday.”
