The 47-year-old man, who is detained for stabbing his own child in Drouwen, must appear in public for the first time today. The case is not yet being considered substantively.
The man from the municipality of Aa en Hunze was arrested shortly after the stabbing incident on February 27 and has been detained ever since. The case will mainly concern his pre-trial detention.
In front of the public and two police officers, the man stabbed the child with a knife. The officers were in the parking lot at Boomkroonpad because of a report. When the man was arrested, the officers used an electric shock weapon.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has so far released little information about this tragic incident. The Public Prosecution Service does not want to say anything about the age of the victim, except that it concerns a young child. The reason for the stabbing by the father has also been kept silent until now.
The Public Prosecution Service accuses the suspect from the municipality of Aa and Hunze for the time being of attempted murder. That would mean that the man would not have acted on a whim.
