The suspect in the case surrounding the death of Xavier Durlinger from Limburg has been released for the time being. According to the chamber of the court, there is no longer sufficient evidence to detain nineteen-year-old Luca M. any longer. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) informed NU.nl on Thursday that the man is still a suspect in the case.
The council chamber has ruled “that there are no longer serious objections” against M.. The pre-trial detention has therefore been lifted.
Nineteen-year-old Durlinger disappeared from Sittard on Wednesday evening 11 May. More than a week later, his body was found in a forest near the Limburg city. Police soon said they suspected the man had died as a result of a crime. On May 31, M. was arrested for involvement in Durlinger’s death.
The Public Prosecution Service still sees M. as a suspect in the case. The spokesperson says that it is not yet known what the next steps will be.
