Police previously reported that three vehicles were involved in the accident, but there are four, the police spokesman said. The occupants of the fourth vehicle were not injured.
According to the police spokesperson, there was a rear-end collision around 4.15 pm, near the Frisian village of Kornwerderzand. Exactly how that could have happened is still under investigation. The police have heard witnesses and will also ask the people in the hospital what happened.
The Afsluitdijk was closed in the direction of Friesland due to the accident. This lasted until about 9pm.
