The mother of two-year-old Théa had entrusted the supervision of her daughter to her partner at the time, in their apartment in Namur. The girl’s injuries were so severe that she ended up in a coma and died a few days after admission. The man was arrested shortly after the fact and charged with manslaughter.
After being convicted at first instance, the man was sentenced to 15 years in prison on appeal. Thinking he could avoid punishment, the convicted man went into exile in Morocco. He assumed another identity and started a new life in Martil, a suburb of Tetouan on the north coast.
However, the case was also referred to the Moroccan court, where he was arrested and imprisoned.
During a first trial in Morocco, the suspect was sentenced to 20 years in prison, reports L’Avenir. His sentence was reduced to 15 years in prison after an appeal that ended Thursday.
