Man (65) killed by metal ball at Highland Games | Inland

A police spokesman could not say exactly where the victim was, but he was not among the crowd.

According to the Eindhovens Dagblad, the victim was standing in a flower garden behind a hedge where the game was played. Participant Cornelis Smit saw it all happen. “This has gone terribly wrong,” he tells the newspaper in an agitated manner.

According to Omroep Brabant, the man was not a spectator, but happened to walk by. “So he didn’t see the ball coming at all,” said a visitor.

Help for the victim was to no avail, he died on the spot. The games have been halted after the incident. The organization could not be reached for an explanation.
