The 57-year-old man who became the first human to receive a heart transplant from a genetically modified pig two months ago, died on Tuesday – two months after his operation, the hospital in the American city of Baltimore, where the transplant took place. The New York Times spoke shortly after the transplant of a “medical first, offering hope for hundreds of thousands of patients with failing organs”.
