Man (50) arrested on bus for smuggling fellow travelers

A man from Somalia was arrested by the Royal Military Police on Sunday for human smuggling on an international bus line between the Netherlands and Belgium. He was arrested during a check on the A16 highway near Hazeldonk. Three fellow travelers were allegedly smuggled onto the bus by the Somali. One of them is a minor.

The occupants of the bus were all checked by employees of the Royal Military Police. Several people had no identity document. The military police suspected that three of the passengers knew the man from Somalia. He was then arrested.

The group of three enters the asylum process. Two other travelers were also unable to identify themselves and they also applied for asylum in the Netherlands. The Public Prosecution Service of Zeeland-West Brabant has started an investigation together with the Royal Military Police.
