Abdusamad A. from Tadjikistan, who was arrested in Eindhoven in July 2023, was a great danger to Dutch society. That is why the 31-year-old supporter of terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) must be banned from society for a long time and into the cell. The court in Rotterdam finds this. The man wanted to commit terrorist crimes and searched and found several supporters for this.
The judge would have preferred to impose a prison sentence of six years, but because the lawsuit lasted so long, A. came from five and a half years in prison. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded eight years.
The man was arrested for preparing a terror attack and according to the judge no word was lied to that. A. has committed itself in all sorts of ways for seven years and for IS in different countries. He managed to surround himself with people who pursued the same goal. In our country too, his goal was to earn as much money as possible and to win souls for IS. He also wanted to raise money for his brother, who would have been arrested as a supporter of IS on suspicion of committing attacks on consulates in Istanbul, Turk,. Furthermore, A. had set his sights on ‘big things’, which should be explained as attacks.
‘Totally unbelievable’
A. said that he is willing to perform Jihad himself, according to the ruling. He said he needed a year or two and that he will then fight. Then he would be too old for it. During the court case, two weeks ago, he stated that this was a joke and that he meant the war in Ukraine. The court finds this explanation completely unbelievable. A.’s statements were recorded by a number of undercover police officers, who managed to get involved in his life.
The Tadjiek came into the picture in February 2023 at the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). The man had been living in our country for some time. He made no secret that he was a supporter of the ideas of IS. He was also a member of a group treasure in which it was often spoken in glorifying about the attacks committed by this organization. He also showed interest in small automatic firearms that ‘Brothers from Germany want to use for an action for Aliah’.
The AIVD also discovered that he maintained intensive contact with three other men who stayed in Germany. They regularly visited each other, in Breda, Eindhoven and Germany, among others. They too have been in court and were in prison for up to two years and nine months. This three were arrested at the same time as A. in July 2023, while his wife was arrested in Breda. She has been in court before, but was acquitted.
