A 48-year-old man from Ommen was seriously injured on Saturday evening after an accident with fireworks in the Schuttevaerstraat in Meppel. According to bystanders, heavy fireworks exploded in the face of the victim.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. A huge bang preceded the accident. The windows vibrated in the frames, says a bystander. Several residents of the street witnessed the explosion. The police called it a ‘violent incident’.
Blanket to keep victim warm
Immediately after the explosion, residents rushed outside to help the injured. An attempt was made to keep the seriously injured victim warm with a blanket.
Police and an ambulance arrived on the scene. A trauma helicopter also flew to Meppel to provide assistance. The resident of Ommen has been transferred to the hospital. The condition of the victim is unknown.
