The police arrested a 48-year-old man from Emmer-Compascuum late last night after a chase that ended in a ditch near his residence. The man was in possession of a fake firearm and narcotics, a police spokesperson reported this morning.
The man ignored a trailing sign near Emmen and tried to outsmart the police by parking his car on Oostelijke Koppelveenweg and running into a meadow. Officers who started the pursuit caught the suspect because his escape attempt stranded in a ditch.
A police helicopter and dogs, among others, came into action to arrest the man. As far as is known, he acted alone.
Due to the hypothermia he suffered, a visit to the hospital followed. The man was then transferred to the Assen police station. Today he is being interrogated.
