The police arrested a 43-year-old man this morning who is suspected of involvement in the death of Hoofddorp resident Steve Mahakena. It concerns a man from the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.
This was reported by the police this morning. The suspect is in full restriction, which means he can only have contact with his lawyer. His involvement in the death of the locally known tattoo artist is under further investigation. Due to the ongoing investigation, the police are not making any further announcements about the arrest.
On the morning of March 7, 48-year-old Steve Mahakena was found seriously injured in an apartment on Egholm in Hoofddorp. An attempt was made to resuscitate him, but he died shortly afterwards.
Brawl
A few weeks later, the police made in the Opsporing Requested program that he had died in the night before his death had fought. This would be evidenced by injuries found on his body.
In the weeks after March 7, the detectives spent weeks investigating in and around the house where he was found. Mahakena herself did not live in that apartment. The resident was heard as a witness at the time, but was not himself a suspect. Also in the ditches around the apartment complex looking for possible evidence.

Steve ran a tattoo shop in the Vennep shopping center De Symfonie. The day after his death, many fellow entrepreneurs reacted with great distress to his death. Soon there was a huge sea of flowers in front of his shop. A fundraising campaign to pay for his funeralyielded more than 20,000 euros.
