Man (42) arrested for dozens of home burglaries in Haarlemmermeer, IJmond and Amsterdam

There is no DNA match yet, but the police think they have solved a long series of burglaries in Haarlemmermeer, IJmond and Amsterdam with the arrest of a 42-year-old Albanian in Spaarndam.

The suspect was arrested last night by officers who were specifically looking for him. In order to apprehend him, they had entrenched themselves in the area around De Linie.

At about 1 a.m., officers saw a man who matched the description. When they approached and spoke to him, he ran. He jumped through the reeds into a ditch, swam a bit, but finally decided to come to the side. There he was met by the police, who handcuffed him and took him to the station.

DNA found

The man is said to have committed dozens of home burglaries in the past year, always at night and often in sparsely populated and rural areas. In most cases, his loot consisted of money and jewelry.

DNA has been found in some burglaries, in other burglaries the perpetrator has been captured by surveillance cameras. An investigation must show whether it concerns the DNA of the arrested man.
