A car fell into the water along the A28 near Rogat this morning. The driver climbed out of the car independently and took off after reaching the side. It is unclear how the driver was able to avoid the guardrail and then steer into the water.
Officers patrolled the area in the hope of finding the person. A Burgernet report and several resulting tips ultimately led to Ruinerwold, where the man could be arrested on the Boerpad. It turns out to be a 35-year-old man from Groningen.
After the accident, a lane of the A28 near the water was closed off to give emergency services space. With the help of Rijkswaterstaat, the vehicle was lifted onto dry land.
The Groninger must explain the circumstances of the accident and his motive for fleeing at the police station.
