A 30-year-old man from Elburg was arrested by the police on Sunday for allegedly making an appeal to use force against the police. It concerns an image and text that he posted in a social media group, the police reported Monday.
The police and the Public Prosecution Service regard the call as incitement and a threat to police officers. Sedition, whether or not inciting others to commit crimes via social media, is a crime for which people can get a criminal record. The man is in custody and will be questioned about the suspicion, police said.

Last Friday, a 30-year-old man from Zeist was arrested for inflammatory statements about the farmers’ protests. That day, a 23-year-old man from Strijensas in South Holland was also convicted by super-fast court for sedition. He was given a community service order of 120 hours and a two-month suspended prison sentence for the call to shut down Schiphol.
A week earlier, the police announced that they had arrested a 52-year-old man from Uden (North Brabant) for inciting and threatening Prime Minister Mark Rutte, among others.
