Man (23) died at carbide shooting in Diessen

A 23-year-old man died during the carbide shooting in Diessen, the police reported. The man was initially taken to hospital with serious injuries. There he eventually died of his injuries.

The accident happened in a meadow on the Oirschotsedijk in Diessen. An air ambulance also landed there. There were about forty people present who saw the accident happen. The police report that victim support is being arranged for them.

Police are still assuming it was a fatal accident, but are still interviewing all witnesses.

With carbide shooting, carbide is brought into contact with water in an old-fashioned milk churn. This causes a chemical reaction that releases gas. That gas shoots the lid off the can at high speed. Sometimes a ball is also used to seal the can. The aim is to create a huge bang when fired.
