A 22-year-old motorist drove through the built-up area of Beverwijk at top speeds last night during a police chase. The man eventually crashed into an electric billboard in Uitgeest. The man suffered head injuries and had to be taken to hospital.
The collision that ended the chase happened around 4 a.m. on the Tolweg in Uitgeest. The driver caught the attention of the police because he was estimated to be driving around 100 kilometers per hour on the Alkmaarseweg in Beverwijk. This road is within a built-up area, which gave the police enough reason to pursue the motorist.
“The driver ignored the police stop sign and took off,” a police spokesperson said. “The officers had difficulty keeping up with the man.”
Crash in Uitgeest
Ultimately, the vehicle crashed on the Tolweg in Uitgeest. The car crashed into the guardrail and also hit an electric billboard. The vehicle’s airbags did not deploy. “That is remarkable,” the police say. “Normally this already happens when the vehicle is traveling at 30 kilometers per hour.”
In any case, the 22-year-old driver suffered a head injury. He was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he received the necessary medical care. He is also being prosecuted for his driving behavior.
