Man (22) arrested for involvement in attacking PowNed on Ameland

The police have arrested a second suspect for possible involvement in incidents surrounding the Sunneklaas celebration on Ameland.

It concerns a 22-year-old resident of the island who was arrested on Friday and released on Saturday. He remains a suspect in the investigation, the Public Prosecution Service said. Last Thursday, a 31-year-old Amelander was arrested. He has also been released, but remains a suspect.

On December 5, a camera crew from PowNed was attacked when they wanted to report on Sunneklaas. This is a local variant of the Sinterklaas celebration where outsiders are not welcome. The journalists’ car was rammed, images show. PowNed has filed reports because of the incidents.
