Death at Mexico Square! A young man (19) died on Sunday morning in Berlin-Zehlendorf while surfing the S-Bahn.
The police received the first clues from witnesses to the dead young man on the train roof early on Sunday morning. They had noticed the body lying on the roof at the Rathaus Steglitz S-Bahn station and alerted the police. But the train went five stations further in the direction of Wannsee.
According to a spokeswoman for the federal police, the lifeless young man was then discovered at 5:57 a.m. on the roof of line S1 by employees at the Mexikoplatz station, he was lying in the rear of the train.
“The 19-year-old had suffered such serious head injuries that he had already died. We assume that it is a S-Bahn surfer.”
The investigators suspect that he banged his head against an obstacle during his careless action.
Because of the police investigation, no S-Bahn stopped at Mexico Square for several hours. The trains have been running according to plan since the morning, it said.
“S-Bahn surfing is life-threatening”
The Federal Police urgently warns against holding on to, between or on trains and riding in this way. “S-Bahn surfing is life-threatening,” emphasizes the spokeswoman.
However, it happens again and again, especially among young people, that they still try, for example as a test of courage.
