The security company Check Point has published the June malware overview, which warns about the most common malware in circulation. MaliBot, a new malware aimed at Android, has quickly risen to third place on the list.

MaliBot is disguised as cryptocurrency mining applications distributed under different names. The malware aims to steal the financial information of mobile banking users. The malware tries to get you to download a phishing email by opening a malicious link. The link leads to a site from which an attempt is made to get the victim to download an application containing malware.

– It’s great that the authorities manage to tame cybercriminal groups or malware like FluBot, but unfortunately it didn’t take long before a new mobile malware took its place, research director Maya Horowitz Check Point Software says in a press release.

The most common malware in the world and also in Finland is still Emotet, which is mainly used to spread other malware. At the forefront of mobile malware was AlienBot, which allows an attacker to inject malicious code into banking applications, allowing the attacker to gain access to the victim’s accounts and device.

The best way to protect yourself from malware is to only download applications from official app stores and to familiarize yourself with the backgrounds of the application before downloading. You should also be careful with various scam messages that try to get you to download malware.
