Malfunction at the lock, possible gardens full of water at Meppelerdiep

The Drents Overijsselse Delta water board cannot drain water from the Meppelerdiep due to a malfunction at a lock. This causes water levels to rise and gardens can be flooded.

The fault is in the Meppelerdiepsluis near Zwartsluis. The disruption causes water levels in the canal between Meppel and Zwartsluis to rise. “At some locations, there will be water in the gardens located directly on the Meppelerdiep,” the water board warns.

A solution is being worked on. “Rijkswaterstaat manages the Meppelerdiepsluis and is working on a solution to the disruption.”
