The genetic material recovered from the sweater of the Sabadell neighbor murdered in 2001 does not connect with Xavi Jiménez, the only one investigated in this case unearthed by justice
The Sabadell Court that has reopened the case for the murder of Helena Jubanythe young librarian murdered on December 2, 2001, has informed the parties that the DNA recovered from the sweater worn by the victim does not match that of the only one under investigation, Xavi Jimenez. At the same time, genetic material from an unknown person was found in the swab used during the forensic examination carried out on Jubany’s body more than twenty years ago: a man. This is a swab that collected samples from the victim’s genitalia. Joan Jubany, Helena’s brother, explains that to EL PERIÓDICO, from the Prensa Ibérica group, which, through the lawyer representing the family, Benet Salellas, have requested – and the judge has agreed – to verify whether the DNA of the swab coincides with Jiménez or with the material found in the sweater.
The biological analyzes will be key to putting together a case that has been unearthed on the edge of the statute of limitations and that, consequently, must overcome all kinds of obstacles that the passage of time has placed between justice and Jubany’s murderers. Judge Juan Díaz Villar has ordered that the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences take charge of the rest of the study. The scientific unit of the National Police has been in charge of analyzing the clothes that Jubany was wearing when she was drugged and thrown into the void in an unconscious state from the top of a rooftop in Sabadell.
