The deep defensive Malcolm Jenkins, the only NFL player to beat Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in Super Bowlstwo legends of the League, announced their retirement on Wednesday.
“I’m excited to announce that after 13 seasons I’m retiring. It’s been a long journey and all of a sudden you know this is the right time to make this transition and get it done,” said the defensive end, which had as its last team the New Orleans Saints.
The 34-year veteran beat Peyton Manning’s Indanapolis Colts with the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV and was part of the Philadelphia Eagles that beat the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
Peyton Manning, a member of the Hall of Fame, is the ‘quarterback’ (passer) who has been designated Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the NFL season, with five. Brady is the most Vince Lombardi trophy winner in League history, with seven: six with the Patriots and one -two seasons ago- with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Jenkins, three-time Pro Bowl selectionhighlighted these achievements and the way in which he was decisive with the two teams he defended.
“I’ve made Super Bowls, I’ve been to Pro Bowls, I have delivered because I always wanted to have an impact on the game on and off the field and I did it; now I feel that I have managed to close my career at a great level”, he explained.
In 13 years of career the defensive he spent seven seasons with New Orleans and six with Philadelphia. In total he played in 199 regular season games with 191 starts, recorded 1,284 tackles, 911 solo, 13.5 sacks and 21 interceptions.
Malcolm Jenkins was selected by New Orleanss in 14th place in the first round of the 2009 Draft from Ohio State.
With the Saints he was in two stages; 2009 to 2013 and from 2020 until its withdrawal; with the Eagles he played between 2014 and 2019. For both squads the defender had words of thanks.
“I grew up in New Orleans and won a Super Bowl my rookie year; I learned everything on this team. En Philadephia I feel like my career took off, I won another Super Bowl. Then I went back to the Saints, my home, to play the two most fun seasons of my career.”
Both the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles dedicated messages of thanks to Jenkins.
