The right rate in Germany also employs the sports world. Malaika Mihambo is worried – also about her own security.
Long jump Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo looks at the political developments in Germany with great discomfort. In particular, the strengthening of the AfD, which became the second strongest force in the past federal election with 20.8 percent, is causing her abdominal pain. In an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, the 31-year-old even emphasized that she was concerned about her own life. “Of course, but fear doesn’t help,” said Mihambo.
The studied political scientist sees a fundamental problem in the fact that parties are approved for election that do not support the basic democratic values. One of the teachings from the time of National Socialism and the Second World War is “that anti -democratic parties must not have a place in a democracy”. In this regard, no tolerance should be shown.
Mihambo emphasized that National Socialism was intellectually but not yet emotionally dealt with sufficiently. “It is important that as a society you deal with the fact that you overcome it. It includes learning what has happened in history,” said Mihambo. It called for mindfulness and vigilance, “but also clear limits where they are necessary”.
In addition, Mihambo criticized the spread of Des- and misinformation, especially on social media. These are a driving force behind the current development. “The age of populism is also about how to represent information and disinformation,” said the two -time world champion. There is a risk that false information that fiddles fear, anger and hate would not be sufficiently corrected.
