Vincent van Gogh is everywhere this month. 140 years ago he got off the train in Hoogeveen and spent three months in Drenthe. Zuid Oost Drenthe-film (ZOD-film) makes a feature film about his time here. Small problem: the actress for the leading role has not yet been found.
The film should provide an insight into Vincent’s stay in the province, director Sander Blom explains. “It is a film that zooms in on the three months that Van Gogh spent in Drenthe. A quite formative period in Van Gogh’s life. Here he decided to focus on a life as an artist.”
On September 11, 1883, Vincent van Gogh arrived in Hoogeveen by train. On December 5 of the same year he leaves Drenthe again. The landscape, the residents and the originality of Drenthe make a great impression on him. He records this in approximately 5 paintings, 20 drawings and 23 letters, most of which are addressed to his brother Theo.
Southeast Drenthe wants to make a feature film about that time. “A fairly quiet film, in which the Drenthe landscape is actually one of the main characters.” The recordings should take place this autumn, so that the images can be shot at the same time of year as Van Gogh.
But we can’t really start yet because a crucial part is still missing. The filmmakers are looking for a young actress from the North who can take on the role of the daughter of an innkeeper where Van Gogh stayed. “She is 14 years old in the role, so we are looking for an actress between the ages of 13 and 17 who can take on that role.” Any girl in that age group who is enthusiastic about the acting profession. Experience is not necessarily required. “It’s just about acting talent from the north, people who are enthusiastic about acting or who have acting experience. Appearance is not important yet.”
