Major traffic action between 3 police zones is successful
The big action started in Meulebeke. There, five drivers had looked too deeply into the glass. They all had to put the car to the side. In addition to alcohol, drug checks were also carried out. In total, three drivers were found to be under the influence of narcotics, one of whom was even driving without a driver’s license (explained for driving under the influence of drugs). This led to two license withdrawals.
Drugs were also found in a car and a vehicle was found to be uninsured and not inspected, so that it was immediately seized. The police also drew up fifteen PVs for other infringements such as incorrect registration, inspection not in order, driving without an accompanying person (provisional driving licence) and minor infringements concerning technical requirements and driving licence.
In Harelbeke, nine drivers had looked too deeply into the glass. One driver was under the influence of narcotics and had to surrender his driver’s license. A car was also seized in Harelbeke for not being properly insured and inspected. In addition, the police identified three other minor violations.
Finally, a number of drivers in Waregem also turned out to be out of order; six because of alcohol (one of which was revoked driving license). No offenses were found for narcotics, but nine more reports were drawn up on technical requirements, insurance and provisional driving licence.
Police districts say these results show that weekend traffic checks remain a necessity. The three zones will continue to be used jointly to make the region safer on the road. In the near future, such actions will certainly be repeated.
