Major setback Christmas Circus Haarlem: tent irreparably damaged by storm Elin

Christmas Circus Haarlem has suffered yet another blow. The strong gusts of wind that flew across the province last night damaged the main tent beyond repair. Now we just have to wait and see whether the new tent will be delivered in time before the first performance starts.

Things are certainly not going well for Christmas Circus Haarlem. At the beginning of this year, visitors were quite frightened after an accident with an acrobatand last night storm Elin damaged the main tent to such an extent that a new tent had to be delivered from France.

The spokesperson for the Haarlem circus is in sackcloth when NH speaks to him. “The tent was blown to pieces,” he says. “To such an extent that we have to tear everything down to the ground and rebuild it again.” What makes the situation even more unpleasant: the circus is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year.

Exciting situation

The wind caused a huge crack in the roof of the circus tent. Fixing it is not an option. “It is really damaged beyond repair. We have decided to immediately order a new tent, which is coming, but it is a very annoying setback.”

According to the spokesperson, circus employees had been ‘fighting’ all night to keep the tent up. “But somehow the wind got a hold of it.”

Whether the tent reaches the Netherlands in time remains a matter of waiting. The first performance of Christmas Circus Haarlem is scheduled for December 22. Fortunately, there is one bright spot: rehearsals for the performance continue.

For now it’s just a matter of waiting for the brand new tent. “It is a tense situation,” the spokesperson said. “But I want to emphasize that the performances will continue as usual.”
