Major residential fire in Amsterdam-West under control, twenty homes evacuated

A large fire broke out in a house on Marco Polostraat in Amsterdam-West tonight. The fire service says there are no casualties. Twenty homes in the area have been evacuated as a precaution. The fire is now under control.

Images show that the rear of the building in particular is ablaze, while thick clouds of smoke are coming out of the front of the house. It is still unclear how the fire started.

The fire broke out just after 7 p.m. at a porch apartment on the third floor of the building. The fire brigade is on site with many units to extinguish the fire. The residents were at home when the fire broke out, but were able to leave their homes in time.
