Major fire causing millions in damages in a textile factory in the Czech Republic

A major fire in a textile factory in Turnov, Czech Republic caused millions in damages. The fire broke out on Wednesday night and hit two factory halls one after the other, as the emergency services announced, according to the CTK agency. The fire was brought under control after several hours, but the search for hidden embers was still ongoing. Around 170 firefighters were involved in the extinguishing work. According to initial reports, no one was injured.

According to initial estimates, the material damage amounts to the equivalent of around 6.5 million euros. Due to the heavy smoke, residents were instructed to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. Turnov has almost 15,500 inhabitants and is located around 45 kilometers southeast of the Saxon border town of Zittau. The place is considered the gateway to the Bohemian Paradise protected landscape area. (dpa)
