Major damage to apartment after gas explosion, suspended ceiling comes down

There was an explosion in the kitchen of a service flat on Eikendonck in Vught on Sunday afternoon. What caused the explosion is under investigation, but it is suspected to be a gas explosion. When it went wrong, two people were working in the kitchen. Mostly elderly people live in the building.

According to a 112 correspondent on the scene, it was a disaster and it must have been a big bang. Several windows on the ground floor and first floor are missing. Parts of the suspended ceiling in the building have fallen. In the kitchen there are plates, bowls and wine bottles on the floor.

There is a recreation room on the first floor of the building, where no one was present at the time of the explosion. There were two people in the kitchen at the time of the explosion. According to a local police officer from Vught, no people were injured.

The fire brigade came to the building with three vehicles. The police and an ambulance also provided assistance. The fire brigade has now checked the apartment and Enexis has also been called in.

The total complex has thirteen floors and 88 apartments. It is a service apartment, residents can use communal facilities.

The kitchen is located at the back of the flat in a two-storey area. A caterer provides the food in the complex. The owner of the catering company says that he does not know what exactly happened, and he cannot say anything else yet.
