Major construction projects on hold due to very expensive materials
This is the case for the Hoost housing project in Heist, for example. And the city of Torhout has already postponed planned renovation works of the cultural center De Brouckère for one year.
Torhout provides in its budget more than one and a half million euros for a thorough renovation of the 26-year-old CC. The works would normally start in June, but due to the uncertain times, Torhout is pushing the renovation work one year ahead. Patrimonial Alderman Hans Blomme: “We are postponing the file because raw material prices are going through the roof. We can’t even find a contractor for certain lots of the tender. The contractors don’t invest a price in the project because the raw material prices vary every day. It’s better that we postpone it for a year and obtain better prices, so that we can complete the works in one go.”
