Mainz has a long-term commitment to Burkardt

The relegation-threatened Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 has signed striker Jonathan Burkardt on a long-term basis. As the Mainz team announced on Monday evening, the 23-year-old has extended his contract, which expires at the end of the season, by three years until 2027.

“Despite his young age as a footballer, Jonny Burkardt is already an influential player and character for Mainz 05. With his goal threat, his footballing instinct, his speed runs, but also his run-intensive game in our pressing, he is an extremely versatile player like no other embodies our Mainz football,” said sports director Christian Heidel.

Burkardt made his comeback after a year-long injury break just a few weeks ago. He scored 18 goals in 98 competitive games for FSV. “I am very grateful to those in charge at Mainz 05 and also to the fans for the trust, support and patience that I experienced during the difficult time of the injury break for me,” said Burkardt.
