Schalke 04 and sports director Peter Knäbel will go their separate ways in the future. The contract was dissolved by mutual agreement.
As the club announced on New Year’s Monday (January 1, 2023), the contract with Knäbel was terminated with immediate effect. Knäbel, who was previously responsible for the sporting area on the board, will continue to work as a consultant until June 30th.
Schalke wants to restructure
He joined FC as Technical Director in April 2018 Schalke 04 bumped. In this role, the trained football teacher initiated key steps towards the further development of Knappenschmiede. He was appointed to the board in 2021.
“Together with our new CEO Matthias Tillmann and Christina Rühl-Hamers, we have made the decision to restructure football at Schalke without the position of the Sports CEO,” explained Supervisory Board Chairman Axel Hefer. Knäbel explained: “For me, after almost six years, one of the most intense periods of my professional life is coming to an end.” He announced that he would return to his family in Switzerland after the season.
