FSV Mainz 05 is deep in the relegation battle. The club may soon take on a new coach.
Only one win from 21 Bundesliga games, the only success so far dates back to November 4th (2-0 against RB Leipzig), currently in 17th place and already four points behind relegation place 16: FSV Mainz 05 has been deep in crisis for months. Now the club could change coaches for the second time this season.
Because “Bild” reports: Head coach Jan Siewert is about to be eliminated from the 05ers. Sunday’s 3-1 defeat against VfB Stuttgart could be the 41-year-old’s last game on the Rheinhessen bench.
“We need victories”
It would be a short term of office: Siewert only took over from long-time coach Bo Svensson at the beginning of November last year, who had to leave after a completely botched start to the season and elimination in the second round of the DFB Cup. Despite a surprise win in the first game against Leipzig, there was no improvement at FSV under Siewert. The coach himself said to “Bild”: “Basically, we in the coaching team have done everything we can to ensure that the team is successful in every game.” The team “did not give up. Sports director Martin Schmidt said after the Stuttgart game: “We’ll sit down together and see what the next steps are. It’s clear that we can’t continue playing like this. We need victories.” The Swiss avoided a clear commitment to Siewert: “The tendency is very clear that we analyze it together. But we have to change something, you can see that.
