“Brutal”: DFB professional rages against their own players

One point from three games: Dissatisfaction increases in Mainz. Nadiem Amiri cleared his anger after the game against Leipzig.
After the 0: 1 against RB Leipzig, the disappointment at FSV Mainz 05 was noticeable – especially with Nadiem Amiri. The German international was frustrated about the current situation of his team and did not save with clear words after the final whistle. “Brutal. It was very, very sobering. I’m very down,” said the 28-year-old at the DAZN microphone.
Amiri was not just about the result. Rather, he criticized the basic attitude of his teammates on the offensive: “We lack the lust of goals. And that is what annoys me.” The FSV continues to be waiting for the first three this season – only one point from the first three games has so far been booked.
There are structural reasons for the offensive doldrums: So far, Mainz has only scored once in this Bundesliga season-and only by penalty in 1-1 in Wolfsburg. “The last passport, the understanding of the game is missing,” said Amiri. At the same time, he demanded: “Maybe we have to train processes, actions for the box.”
The loss of Jonathan Burkardt is particularly painful for the Mainz. The former national striker switched to Eintracht Frankfurt in summer and left a large vacuum in the Mainz storm series. With 18 goals in the past season, he was the team’s most successful goal scorer.
Amiri therefore does not see the current squad able to catch the departure. Against Leipzig, they had more game shares in the second half, but there is still no consequence in the end. “We dominate the game in the second half, but nobody feels like it wants to score,” said the international.
