Mainz 05: No commitment to coach Bo Svensson – “Analyze hard”

After the cup exit in Berlin

After the embarrassing exit in the DFB Cup at Hertha BSC, sports director Martin Schmidt from 1. FSV Mainz 05 avoided a clear commitment to coach Bo Svensson. “We now have to analyze this thoroughly. Bo will be on the bench against Leipzig on Saturday if we take this analysis in the right direction. You can’t expect me to say yes or no now,” said Schmidt after the 3-0 defeat at the bottom of the Bundesliga at the Berlin second division club and added: “We clearly want to do that with Bo. But we won’t sugarcoat a game like that.”

Mainz is in the biggest sporting crisis in years. The Zero Fives have been without a win for ten games. Mainz last won in the first round of the cup in mid-August. “During competition, there is suddenly such uncertainty. Every loss of the ball feels dangerous,” analyzed Schmidt.

According to the sports director, “the relationship” between the team and coach is still intact. “You can also hear that from the team. The team wants to achieve this with Bo. The team wants to get out of there with Bo. But it’s stagnating at all ends,” reported Schmidt. The sporting leadership is in close contact with Svensson.
