Alberto Garzón summons his Federal Coordinator to give the green light to the ‘yes’ to the investiture of Pedro Sánchez and opens a vote to decide his entry or not into the Executive

United Left shields his support for the investiture of Pedro Sanchez and opens a vote to request the endorsement of its bases in an eventual entry into the Government, whether in the form of ministries, secretaries of State, General Directorates or middle management.

The leader of the party, Alberto Garzonpresents this Thursday a draft of the political document before its executive, the Federal Coordinatorwhere he proposes that the five IU deputies vote favorably the formation of the Government after the agreement reached between PSOE and Sumar. Once this Thursday the executive gives the green light to this support, the training will call its bases to vote from this Friday, November 3 until this Sunday 5 their participation in the coalition Executive.

In the document that is expected to be approved today, Garzón takes pride in the position that IU has maintained, marking distances with other forces such as Podemos, which have generated strong turbulence in their war against Yolanda Díaz. “Our organization has been maintaining a serious and responsible attitude, fleeing from tactics and internal ruin”, details the document. “Progressive citizens do not expect anything else from us.” Already last week, the general secretary of the PCE, Enrique Santiago, called not to air internal differences publicly, after the disdain of the purple towards the Government agreement sealed between Sánchez and Díaz.

After Sánchez’s investiture, Izquierda Unida has the option of entering the future Council of Ministers, an even more viable option after the PSOE has opened itself to giving up more ministries than initially planned. “If the investiture goes ahead, there is the possibility of Izquierda Unida being part of the coalition government resulting from these new agreements in a form yet to be defined. In this case, the decision corresponds to the entire militancy, which must vote in a referendum on possible participation,” the text details.

IU has so far been one of the organizations that have most enthusiastically supported Yolanda Díaz from his first solo steps to the signing of the programmatic agreement with the PSOE, from which the purples immediately disassociated themselves. Garzón’s party maintained its support for Sumar despite having left out of the distribution of spokespersons parliamentarians in the Congress of Deputies, and despite the strong unrest that it generated in their ranks.
