FSV Mainz 05 suffered their first defeat in their third pre-season test.
The Rheinhessen lost on Friday in Kufstein/Austria against the Turkish first division team Besiktas with 0:1 (0:1). The goal of the day was scored by former Frankfurt player Cenk Tosun in the 24th minute.
Mainz had previously won at district top division club 1. FC Kiedrich (21-0) and regional division club Wormatia Worms (4-0).
On Monday (4 p.m.) Bo Svensson’s team will also play English first division club Newcastle United at the Grenzlandstadion in Kufstein.
Mainz will play their first competitive game on July 31 in the first round of the DFB Cup at third division club Erzgebirge Aue. In the Bundesliga, Mainz starts a week later at VfL Bochum.
